Skiing Reductions Can Be Had because of the Recession

With the sterling fetching only slightly more than the euro at Travelex, you would think that there would be lots of real ski deals to be found in skiing resorts this Christmas as potential skiers rest in the UK to beat the credit crunch. Early figures barely publicized point to the fact that skiing towns are 89 % booked over the New year period. 12 percent higher than the equivalent period of time a year ago.

One will have better chance in the new year which at the moment has a 38 percent reserve level. The signs of a downturn is during the key school ski vacation month that has 66 percent reservations, 4 % less than a year ago. Booking centers in the ski fields of La Rosiere, Montroc, Les Houches and Verchaix have noted heavy bookings in November encouraged by the fantastic early season snows. Montgenevre has better inquiries than last year, and Serre Chevalier had an excellent New Year and Christmas.

However there is substantial interest in bigger catered chalets, 5 to 9 spaces, as people group up to save money. Early evidence shows that DIY snowboarding holidays are doing well, perhaps evidence that serious boarders will not sacrifice their ski trip. However inquiries for tour operators are down.
