A Holiday in Aruba
It feels good meeting up with old friends after a long time at the high school reunion and time somehow flew by as we chatted away. It was great meeting after such a long time. The ten of us; some stars of the school basketball team, some cheerleaders under Sheila who was the prom queen, and of course, Rod who was the tennis champ and also Sheila’s boyfriend.
We promised to keep in touch and exchanged telephone numbers. We had already planned to spend time together in summer. Sheila and Rod, happily married by now, had a timeshare vacation home in Aruba, and suggested we meet there for a vacation. Aruba reminded Andy and Celine of their honeymoon spent in Amsterdam Manor on Eagle Beach in Aruba. We then went on to discussing beaches at resorts and public beaches in Aruba.
After coordinating things a bit, we managed to head to Aruba. We had to stay in different resorts though as it was peak season. All of us planned to meet at the Surfside Beach which is a public beach close to Oranjestad and then head out to see the beaches at resorts in the area. The white sand beach at Renaissance Island was spectacular, but we couldn’t spend time there as it was accessible only to guests staying at the Renaissance resort. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Palm Beach, trying our hands at different water sports and just lazing under the shady palm trees. Some of our friends were staying at the Holiday Inn and the Mariott hotel and we headed for these places. The beaches at resorts have thatched umbrellas called palapas and guests can lounge under these umbrellas. The beaches at resorts are really well maintained and a great place to have fun. We rested for some time under these thatched umbrellas after a game of beach volleyball and then dined in a restaurant on the beach.
The next few days were spent at Rod’s and Sheila’s time share villa. The garden was really beautiful and we had a great barbecue dinner. After dinner we all headed for Eagle Beach for walk under the moonlight and generally chatted about old times.
